Site Questions

This site’s so confusing, why don’t you make it more like <some other site>?

It won’t let me log in, says my information is invalid!?!!

I’m seeing “503 - Service Unavailable” errors.

I’m seeing “You are not properly authenticated” when posting a status.

I never received my confirmation email.

This site needs a mobile app!!!

I can log in with one browser but not another.

I keep being signed out, what gives?!

How do I verify my account?

Simply put, you cannot. Some users put “officially verified” on their profile, that’s just part of their “About Me” and is absolutely meaningless. You can confirm your email address which will then allow you to receive email notifications from the site.

How do I change my username, email or password?

Changing your username (as well as your email and password) can be done from the settings page.

What does “Member Type” mean?

Member type is just a textual indicator of how long you’ve been on the site. It also serves a greater purpose of indicating which profiles belong to the site’s staff and which users help contributed to the betterment of the community. Don’t be fooled by imitators, if it doesn’t say “Official Staff” then the person is in no way affiliated with this site.

What does the “strip” button do?

The “strip” buttons removes all customizations from a profile, it works best in a situation where someone has made the text and background the same color and you can’t read anything on the page. Seriously though, get your mind out of the gutter.

How do I post videos?

Currently, only YouTube videos are supported. Include the link to the video in your status update and it will be displayed as an embedded video.

How do I upload an image from my iPod / iPhone / iPad / et cetera?

When you go to select your file, you will be prompted to install an app call Picup that will allow you to select a file from your device and upload it to our site. At this time, we do not provide any additional support for other mobile platforms. Please note that at this time this only works for profile images and not profile backgrounds.

How do I delete my profile?

Click “Edit Your Profile” and at the bottom there is a button to delete your profile.

How do I mention someone in a status update?

When entering the status message, be sure to include their username (with an @ symbol before it) and the user will be notified of the mention. Remember, spelling counts, and if you change your username you will cease to receive mentions to your old name.

How do I message someone, leave them a comment or send a proposal?

All of those things can be done right from the user’s profile (check those buttons across the top of the profile). Depending on the user’s setting some or all of these actions may not be available unless you are their friend. If you’re not friends with them, you won’t see those options.

How do I cancel a proposal?

Go to the user’s profile that you’re in a relationship with and click “Breakup”

Someone is harassing me over comments and/or messages!

The only users that can send you messages and leave you comments are your friends. If you are having issues with a user, simply unfriend them and they will be unable to continue. If you would like to make sure they cannot send you a friend request in the future, use the block button located on their profile. Also, please see our online safety page for more information on how to stay safe online.

Someone is sending me inappropriate messages / asking me for nudes!

We do make efforts to maintain a pervert-free environment. If someone is sending you inappropriate messages (especially if either party is under the age of 18), you can report the message (every message has a report button). Also, please see our online safety page for more information on how to stay safe online.

I found someone faking another person.

Unless the person being faked is you, there’s no way for us to validate the claim. Links to Facebook or other sites as “proof” do not change this. If you know the person allegedly being faked, please refer them here.

I am being faked!

If someone on our site is faking you, you must post a proof pic to first prove the validity of your claim. Proof pictures must include your username (or “not a user” if you aren’t a member), the name of this site, the date and the username(s) of the user(s) you’re calling out on a handwritten paper sign. Once this has been done, report the issue. Please note that old proof pictures and links to your other accounts will be ignored.

This person has posted pictures of self-harm on their profile!

Photos of violent content (including but not limited to self-harm) are not allowed and should be reported immediately (there’s a report button every user’s profile). Additionally, if you feel your friend is in danger, please consult our Counseling and Prevention Resources page.

This person has posted nudes on their profile!

Nudity, defined as nipples (specifically exposed female breasts, sorry ladies), genitalia, and pubic region (including pubic hair or where public hair would be if not groomed), is not allowed and should be reported immediately (there’s a report button on every user’s profile). Underwear or subjectively, “too much skin” is not considered pornography.

This person has posted pictures of illegal drugs and/or underage drinking!

Photos of drug accessories, illegal or prescription drugs, and herbal drugs such as salvia and magic mushroom are not permitted and should be reported immediately. Additionally, photos of underage drinking are not permitted (reads: we don’t want to see pictures of your 14 year old self getting “wasted” on wine coolers).

This person has racist and/or Nazi stuff on their profile!

Any racist, sexist, prejudiced or violent content (including but not limited to self-harm) as well as any Nazi or KKK references or imagery are not allowed and should be reported immediately (there’s a report button on every user’s profile).

My friend is posting status updates about committing suicide!

If you or someone you know is dealing with an eating disorder, self-harm issues or suicidal thoughts this list of services may be of help.

How do I change the color of my text in chat?

As it says on the chat page, you can enter /help for commands, there is a command to change the color of the text (along with some other actions). If you want to permanently set the color, there is an option on the customize page (hint, it’s labeled “Chat Color”).

I’m being harassed by another user in chat, can you kick them for me?

If you are having issues with another user in chat, feel free to use the ignore button conveniently located next to the user’s name on the user list. Ignoring a user removes them from the chat window allowing you to control who you see and don’t see in chat. Also, each room has a button to allow you to private message the moderator. Chat moderators are able to kick problem users from chat.

I was kicked from chat for no reason, they don’t have the right!!~!

Every chat room has an owner that also acts as the moderator. They have the ability at their sole discretion to kick any and all users that they would like. Simply put, they have the right to kick you because it’s their room. You are always welcome to start your own chat room.

This site’s so confusing, why don’t you make it more like <some other site>?

We strive to maintain a very easy to use website and understand that some old dogs can’t learn new tricks. We urge you to experiment with the site before filling out a support request (you won’t break the site, we promise). If you’re still confused, ask a friend or hop in chat and see if anyone can help you. Don’t be surprised if someone tells you to check the FAQ though ;)

It won’t let me log in, says my information is invalid!?!!

A couple of things could be going on here. First (please don’t be offended) you may have actually made a mistake when typing in either your email address or password when signing up for the site or when logging in. You can try to resetting your password, if you receive an error there, you probably fat fingered your email address (should have confirmed your email like we asked!). The other scenario is that your account was terminated for violating our terms. Common reasons for account termination is posting inappropriate photos (self-harm, nudity et cetera). If you do contact us regarding account login issues that you are unable to resolve on your own, please include your username and email address you believe you signed up. Never include your password and remember that we will never ask you for your password.

I’m seeing “503 - Service Unavailable” errors.

Most likely we’re performing maintenance or our hosting company is performing maintenance that is affecting the availability of the site. We do our best to post maintenance windows on our blog in advance.

I’m seeing “You are not properly authenticated” when posting a status.

If you log out and log back in, it will resolve the issue immediately. We are actively researching the cause of this issue and will have a fix in place as soon as we can.

I never received my confirmation email.

The confirmation email is sent when you create your account but like all email, it may take a moment to get to you. If you’ve been patient and it still hasn’t arrived, check your spam folder as it may be there. Still nothing? check that your email address is correct and try resending.

This site needs a mobile app!!!

We’re fully aware and totally appreciative of all the emails we receive asking for this. Our plan is to focus on a better mobile experience and avoid building an app so that we can provide a more consistent experience regardless of device.

I can log in with one browser but not another.

If one of your browsers is working, then something must be wrong with the other one. Common issues are conflicts with browser plugins and expired cookies (clear them out). Often times the issue is due to a very outdated browser, so we do recommend that you update your browser regularly, especially if you’re experiencing issues.

I keep being signed out, what gives?!

If you are being constantly logged out of the site, we suggest clearing your web browser’s cookies and restarting the browser. If you’re using Internet Explorer we recommend that you switch to a different browser immediately (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, seriously anything but IE).
